Whitbread winners & Shergars Sandown classic trial
He didn't bow after mandarin won in Paris he retired after the 63/64 season 2 years later.
Most beautiful horse I ever saw and that includes Secretariat.
That Derby day, I had my money on Great Wall at 80/1. If he hadn't been squeezed, he'd have got 3rd.
The best!
Right up there!
Nashwan Twice Looked Like Quickening but faltered, Just past His best . I Think the Eclipae win took a lot out of the Horse, in the King george he had to really dig deep aswell. Still a great Horse
Fav horse bar none
Piggott thought Sir Ivor was the best he rode
On doit louer Saint Martin, néanmoins.
They just don’t look like are always trying… Its almost certainly old film, my eyes, etc but a lot of the time they don’t seem flat out
Mill House, still one of the five greatest staying steeplechasers I have seen. Strangely, three were all at the same time: Arkle, Flyingbolt and Mill House, Desert Orchid and Denman. Yes I’ve omitted Kauto Star as although a very very fine racehorse I don’t consider him to be the equal of Denman. Heart problems meant we only saw him at his best in The Gold Cup one and he destroyed them then. Personal opinion but that’s one of the things that makes racing great.
Just gave me goosebumps what he win the Derby
I have a grandson of Rock Hopper, Pat Eddery was such a class act!
Nijinsky my first love ❤ & what a speed merchant he was xx
Ah man i remember that horse so well. Won most races in a season as a 2yr old i think, 20 wins or something? But was over-run, came out next year and won nothing n vanished. I used to love Bertie Wooster too in 5/6f big field races. 🏇
Was this a Mel Britain horse or Bill ogorman
Bill Ogorman
@@john131349 cheers for that mate O'Gorman and Ives were one of my favourite partnerships back in the day
The greatest racehorse and jockey combination of all time!
I was just 15years old during that amazing season that Nijinksy won the triple crown. What a horse. What a jockey. No horse since has come close to his achievements, and probably never will. I feel lucky and privileged to have witnessed such an achievement by horse and jockey!
Backed this Cecil horse at 50-1 first time out
Cooked them
Major nostalgia trip 👍
Lean Ar Agahaid wow
Won all his races as a 2 year old on the bridle, the guineas on the bridle, Derby 1 crack of the whip, St Leger on the bridle. Lester did get after him in the Arc and i don't think the horse ever recovered from it. Wasn't used to getting hit, maybe that had an effect on him in his last race. For me one of the best ive ever seen along with his son Golden Fleece.
In those days they always seemed to give great horses such great names.
RIP LESTER PIGGOTT, LES PLUS BELLES ANNÉES AVEC TOI. SAINT MARTIN. RESPECT .
Frankel was the nearest horse to compare the great Nijinsky with.
I cry every time. So many memories.
A SIGH... and so long ago stay well Anthony
Not as interesting as the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore version.
I was lucky enough to see the Nijinsky at Claiborne Farms
I was lucky enough to see his father the greatest sire of all time imo at Winfields Farm in Oshawa Northern Dancer
💝
Alan Monroe and Timeless Times won me a few £ :)
My grandfather trained this horse, a special moment in my families history
My favorite horse EVER!!! Thanks.
Monster of a horse! Just as impressive as Harbinger.. One of the best winners I've seen of the King George.. A fabulous racehorse 😃🐴🥇
A course record at the time, Unfuwain was definitely one of the best racehorses never to collect a group one victory.
very good horse
One of my favourite horses. Thanks for posting this race as I was at Newbury that day.
Wonderful memory . Roberts getting the speed horse MYSTIKO home .. Was at trackside on line 17 years old had backed MYSTIKO big . The last 12 strides went in slow motion . He was all " Speed !
Without doubt my most favourite horse of all time .. remember watching with my dad with great excitement.
My Favourite ever Racehorse, backed him every time he ran, that big white face coming from behind, g/s was his fav ground, 6f his best trip. Miss him x
I have a grandson of linamix
I backed ibn Bey that day. 5-1
A friend of mine had a ton on him at 35-1 in the BC Classic.
Unfortunately he came nowhere. @raygordonteacheschess5501
Oh yes...!! Remember this. Backed him that day. Didn’t see it live as they didn’t show all the races back in the day. It was the SIS commentary lady, and she didn’t give him a mention until very late in the commentary. Great memory, thanks!
If he had won the Arc, Frankel simply would be exceeded by him despite winning two more races, because Frankel only went 10 furlongs twice, Nijinsky was 4/5 over 12 or more furlongs, including a 14 1/2 furlong win in the St. Leger.
We were robbed of seeing possibly the greatest since Nijinsky by them not running Frankel over the longer distance. It was so frustrating seeing Frankel win over a mile with so much in hand and crying out to be tested more on ten furlongs and then do the 12 furlong races. I want yo call Frankel the greatest and kinda think he was but I can't stand up and say "Frankel was the greatest" because of the lack of taking on more horses in longer races.
Nijinsky is one of the great great grandfather of my horse :) My horse’s (Lasting Bravo) grandpa was Nijinsky’s son Green Dancer, which’s son (Oak Dancer) was father of Por Brava, Lasting Bravo’s mother.
I hope you can understavd what you are talking about. I don't
Yes remember him thanks for the footage !
He was a monster, great colt bye the Dancer, bay with black main handsome stud
Ma jeunesse a Longchamp un vrai champion
Same here Tom. I was 10. Sassafras was 10, Nijinsky 9. When the numbers went up it remains one of my worst memories!
amazing feat and I remember this day and it was on the news as well, but OMG!!! can't believe it's over 20 years ago, Crazy!!!
